The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the sun and his morning brightness 1 by the moon, which follows it, 2 And by oath of the day when it reveals it 3 and the night as it veils it darkly! 4 By the heaven and Him Who builded it, 5 and the earth and all its expanse! 6 and by the soul and that (Power) which designed it 7 And its enlightenment as to its wrong and its right;- 8 those who purify their souls will certainly have everlasting happiness 9 And miserable is he who hath buried it. 10 The Thamud denied (the truth) in their perverseness 11 What time the greatest wretch of them rose up. 12 So Allah's apostle said to them (Leave alone) Allah's she-camel, and (give) her (to) drink. 13 However, they rejected him and slew her. So their Lord completely destroyed them and their city for their sins. 14 He dreadeth not the sequel (of events). 15
