Surely We created man of a clay of mud moulded, 26 And created the jinn before him, from smokeless fire. 27 And [mention, O Muhammad], when your Lord said to the angels, "I will create a human being out of clay from an altered black mud. 28 When I have formed him and breathed My spirit into him, fall down in prostration before him," 29 So the angels prostrated themselves, all of them together: 30 Except Iblis (Satan), - he refused to be among the prostrators. 31 He said: O Iblis! what excuse have you that you are not with those who make obeisance? 32 Said he, 'I would never bow myself before a mortal whom Thou hast created of a clay of mud moulded.' 33 God said, "Then get out of here; for you are accursed, 34 And lo! the curse shall be upon thee till the Day of Judgment. 35 "O my Lord," said he, "give me respite till the day the dead are raised." 36 He said, "You are granted respite 37 till the Day the time whereof is known [to Me alone]." 38 Iblis said: "My Lord! In the manner You led me to error, I will make things on earth seem attractive to them and lead all of them to error, 39 except those of Your servants whom You have singled out for Yourself." 40 He said: This is a right course incumbent upon Me: 41 Surely, as regards My servants, you have no authority, over them except those who follow you of the deviators. 42 And verily Hell is the place promised unto them all. 43 To it are seven gates: for each of those gates is a (special) class (of sinners) assigned. 44
