Whoso blinds himself to the Remembrance of the All-merciful, to him We assign a Satan for comrade; 36 Devils divert men from the [right] way, while they think that they are rightly guided. 37 To the extent that when the disbeliever will be brought to Us, he will say to his devil, “Alas – if only there was the distance* of east and west, between you and me!” – so what an evil companion** he is! (* Had I not listened to you. **They will be bound together in chains.) 38 It will profit you not this Day (O you who turn away from Allah's remembrance and His worship, etc.) as you did wrong, (and) that you will be sharers (you and your Qarin) in the punishment. 39 Can you make the deaf to hear, or show the blind, and those lost in clear error, the way? 40 And even if We take you (O Muhammad SAW) away, We shall indeed take vengeance on them. 41 or We shall show you what We have promised them; for surely We have complete power over them. 42 So, hold fast to the Book that has been revealed to you, you are surely on the right path, 43 And lo! it is in truth a Reminder for thee and for thy folk; and ye will be questioned. 44 Ask those of Our Messengers We sent before thee: Have We appointed, apart from the All-merciful, gods to be served? 45
