Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Ha. Mim. 1 By the Scripture that maketh plain 2 We have indeed sent it down in a blessed night – indeed it is We Who warn. 3 on that night every wise decree is specified 4 As a command from before Us. Verily We were to become senders: 5 A mercy from thy Lord. Verily He! He is the Hearer, the Knower. 6 the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them - if you could but grasp it with inner certainty! 7 There is no god but He: He gives life and causes death. He is your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers of yore. 8 Nay! They play in doubt. 9 Then watch thou for the Day that the sky will bring forth a kind of smoke (or mist) plainly visible, 10 That shall overtake men; this is a painful punishment. 11 'O our Lord, remove Thou from us the chastisement; we are believers.' 12 How will there be for them a reminder [at that time]? And there had come to them a clear Messenger. 13 Then they had turned away from him (Messenger Muhammad SAW) and said: "One (Muhammad SAW) taught (by a human being), a madman!" 14 Indeed, We will remove the torment for a little. Indeed, you [disbelievers] will return [to disbelief]. 15 The day when We will seize with the greatest seizure – We will indeed take revenge. 16 ۞ We had certainly tested the people of the Pharaoh before them to whom a noble Messengers had come, saying, 17 Saying: Give up to me the slaves of Allah. Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you. 18 Do not think yourselves to be above God: I have come to you with clear authority. 19 I take refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you stone me. 20 And if you do not believe me, then leave me' 21 And [finally] he called to his Lord that these were a criminal people. 22 God said, "Set out with My servants by night, for you will certainly be pursued. 23 Leave the sea behind you parted; they are a host destined to be drowned." 24 How much they left behind of gardens and springs 25 and cornfields and splendid buildings, 26 And wealth (and conveniences of life), wherein they had taken such delight! 27 Thus it was; and We passed them on to another people. 28 Then neither the sky shed tears over them nor the earth. They were granted no respite. 29
