Alshu'araa' 7 of 11

[AND the tribe of] Ad gave the lie to [one of God's] message-bearers 123 When their fellowman Hud said to them, “Do you not fear?” 124 Verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 125 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me: 126 I ask of you no wage for this; my wage falls only upon the Lord of all Being. 127 Do you construct on every elevation a sign, amusing yourselves, 128 And seek ye out strongholds, that haply ye may last for ever? 129 When you assault, you assault like tyrants. 130 So fear Allah and obey me. 131 Fear Him who has bestowed on you what you know, 132 Who has provided you with flocks and children 133 “And with gardens and water-springs.” 134 “Indeed I fear upon you the punishment of a Great Day.” 135 [But] they answered. "It is all one to us whether thou preachest [something new] or art not of those who [like to] preach. 136 This is not but the custom of the former peoples, 137 "And we are not the ones to receive Pains and Penalties!" 138 In this there is evidence (of the Truth), yet most of them do not have any faith. 139 Surely, your Lord is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 140
