The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ No! I swear by this land, 1 And you are free to live upon it, -- 2 And the parent and the offspring, 3 that We have created man into a life of toil and trial. 4 Deemest he that none will overpower him? 5 He says: “I have squandered enormous wealth.” 6 Does he think that no one sees him? 7 Did We not grant him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 and guided him on the two paths (of good and evil)? 10 But he has not broken through the difficult pass. 11 And what will make you comprehend what the uphill road is? 12 To free a neck (from the burden of debt or slavery), 13 or the feeding in times of famine 14 To an orphan near of kin. 15 Or some poor wretch in misery, 16 And to be of those who believe and exhort one another to perseverance and exhort one another to pity. 17 Those are the companions of the right. 18 As for those who rejected Our Signs, they are the People of the Left Hand. 19 over them is a Fire covered down. 20
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
