The Sun (Al-Shams)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
I CALL TO witness the sun and his early morning splendour, 1 and by the moon as it follows it, 2 By the Day as it shows up (the Sun's) glory; 3 And by oath of the night when it hides it 4 By the heaven and That which built it 5 by the earth and Who spread it, 6 Consider the human self, and how it is formed in accordance with what it is meant to be, 7 and inspired it to lewdness and godfearing! 8 He will indeed be successful who purifies it, 9 and failed has he who seduces it. 10 Thamood belied in their pride 11 when the most corrupt of them incited them (to commit evil). 12 Then the apostle of Allah said unto them: beware of the she-camel of Allah and her drink. 13 But they gave him the lie, and hamstrung the she-camel. So their Lord destroyed them for their crime and razed their city to the ground. 14 And He does not fear its coming behind (to take vengeance). 15
