Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Hast thou received the story of the Enveloper? 1 Some faces will on that Day be downcast, 2 Labouring, wearied out, 3 roasting at a scorching Fire 4 Given to drink of a spring fiercely boiling. 5 For them there will be no food except from a poisonous, thorny plant 6 that will neither nourish nor satisfy their hunger. 7 (Other) faces, that Day, will be joyful, 8 Glad for their effort past, 9 in a sublime garden, 10 Where they hear no idle speech, 11 Within it is a flowing spring. 12 Within it are couches raised high 13 and goblets set forth 14 and arranged cushions 15 And rich carpets spread. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 And the heavens, how it was raised high; 18 And the hills, how they are set up? 19 and how the earth is spread out? 20 Remind them, for thou art but a remembrancer, 21 You are not over them a controller. 22 But whoever turns back and denies the truth, 23 God shall chastise him with the greatest chastisement. 24 for behold, unto Us will be their return, 25 and then it is for Us to call them to account. 26
