▼ 74 The Hidden Secret
Al-Muddath-thir 2 of 2
No, by the moon! 32 And the night when it withdraweth 33 By the dawn when it lightens! 34 Surely it (hell) is one of the gravest (misfortunes), 35 A warning to mankind, 36 Unto him of you who will advance or hang back. 37 Every soul is held in pledge for what it earns, 38 save those who shall have attained to righteousness: 39 [dwelling] In gardens [of paradise,] they will inquire 40 and will ask of the criminals, 41 [And asking them], "What put you into Saqar?" 42 They will say: we have not been of those who prayed. 43 And we have not been feeding the poor. 44 “And used to dwell on evil matters with those who think evilly.” 45 and the Day of Judgment we were wont to call a lie 46 Until the certainty (of death) had come upon us. 47 So no intercession of intercessors will be of any use to them. 48 Then what is wrong with them (i.e. the disbelievers) that they turn away from (receiving) admonition? 49 like frightened donkeys 50 fleeing -- before a lion? 51 Indeed, each one of them desires to be given unrolled scrolls. 52 Nay! But they fear not the Hereafter (from Allah's punishment). 53 Nay; this is an Exhortation. 54 So whosoever will (let him read it), and receive admonition (from it)! 55 And they will not heed unless Allah willeth (it). He is the fount of fear. He is the fount of Mercy. 56

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
