The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the star when it sets: 1 That your companion is not confused, nor has he gone astray, 2 Nor does he speak of (his own) desire. 3 It is but a divine revelation, which is revealed to him. 4 Taught to him by one intense in strength - 5 and endowed with wisdom; who in time manifested himself; 6 being on the higher horizon, 7 Then he drew near, then he bowed 8 And was at a distance of but two bow-lengths or (even) nearer; 9 So Allah divinely revealed to His bondman, whatever He divinely revealed. 10 His heart did not falsify what he perceived. 11 So will you dispute with him over what he saw? 12 And indeed he did see the Spectacle again. 13 By the lote-tree of the utmost boundary, 14 near which is the Garden of Abode. 15 When there covered the Lote Tree that which covered [it]. 16 (His) sight never swerved, nor did it go wrong! 17 truly did he see some of the most profound of his Sustainer's symbols. 18 (Can anything as such be considered true) of al-Lat, al-Uzza, 19 And Manat (another idol of the pagan Arabs), the other third? 20 Are there sons for you, and daughters for Him? 21 That indeed is a division unfair! 22 They are nothing but some names that you have coined, you and your forefathers – Allah has not sent any proof for them; they follow only guesses and their own desires; whereas the guidance from their Lord has come to them. 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 And to God belongs the First and the Last. 25
