Nay, verily: By the Moon, 32 And by the Night as it retreateth, 33 and the morn when it dawns! 34 Indeed, the Fire is of the greatest [afflictions] 35 a warning to mortal man 36 whether one steps forward to embrace the faith or one turns away from it. 37 Every person is a pledge for what he has earned, 38 Except those of the right hand 39 (They will be) in Gardens (of Delight): they will question each other, 40 About the criminals, 41 'What caused you to be thrust into the Scorching (Fire)' 42 They will say: "We were not of those who prayed; 43 and neither did we feed the needy; 44 And we used to enter into vain discourse with those who engaged [in it], 45 And we used to deny the Day of Judgment, 46 Until there came to us the certainty." 47 Then will no intercession of (any) intercessors profit them. 48 Why then do they turn away from the admonition 49 as if they were startled asses 50 fleeing from a lion? 51 Yea, everyone of them claims that he [himself] ought to have been given revelations unfolded! 52 Nay! but they do not fear the hereafter. 53 Nay, verily. Lo! this is an Admonishment. 54 Let him then who heeds remember it. 55 But they will not remember except as God wills: He is worthy to be feared, and He is worthy of forgiving 56
