The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ What do they quarrel about? 1 Concerning the Great News, 2 About which they differ? 3 By no means! anon they shall know. 4 Again, indeed, they shall know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 and the mountains as pegs (to anchor the earth)? 7 Have We not created you in pairs, 8 and made your sleep a means of repose, 9 The night a covering, 10 And made the day as a means of subsistence? 11 And We have built above you seven strong ones, 12 and We appointed a blazing lamp 13 From the rain clouds We send waters pouring down in abundance, 14 Thereby to produce grain and plant, 15 And gardens of entwined growth. 16 VERILY, the Day of Distinction [between the true and the false] has indeed its appointed time: 17 The Day the Horn is blown and you will come forth in multitudes 18 and heaven is opened, and become gates, 19 The mountains put in motion turning into a mirage. 20 Truly, Hell is a place of ambush, 21 For the exorbitant a receptacle. 22 therein they shall abide for ages, 23 They shall not taste therein cool nor drink 24 Except scalding water and [foul] purulence - 25 a meet requital [for their sins]! 26 Indeed, they were not expecting an account 27 having given the lie to Our messages one and all: 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 'Taste! We shall not increase you except in punishment' 30
