The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Read! In the Name of your Lord, Who has created (all that exists), 1 Created man from a clinging substance. 2 Recite: And thy Lord is the Most Generous, 3 who taught by the Pen, 4 Taught man that which he knew not. 5 Nay, but man doth transgress all bounds, 6 Because he considers himself self-sufficient. 7 Verily, to thy Lord is the return (of all). 8 Hast thou seen him who dissuadeth 9 a servant (of Allah) when he prays? 10 What thinkest thou? If he were upon guidance 11 Or had enjoined piety, (it would have been better)? 12 Bethinkest thou, if he belieth and turneth away? 13 Did he not realise that Allah is watching? 14 And yet indeed if he does not desist We shall drag him by the forelock, 15 The lying, sinful forelock - 16 Then let him summon his council, 17 We will now call the guards! 18 Nay, heed him not: But bow down in adoration, and bring thyself the closer (to Allah)! ۩ 19
