And Jonah too was one of the Messengers. 139 When he ran away (like a slave from captivity) to the ship (fully) laden, 140 So he shared (with them), but was of those who are cast off. 141 The fish swallowed him up and he deserved (all this). 142 and had he not been among those who exalt (Allah), 143 he would certainly have remained in its belly till the Day of Resurrection. 144 ۞ Then We cast him on a desert shore while he was sick; 145 and We caused to grow over him a tree of gourds. 146 Then We sent him unto a hundred thousand, or more, 147 and [this time] they believed [in him] and so We allowed them to enjoy their life during the time allotted to them? 148 Now, ask them, has your Lord daughters, and they sons? 149 Or that have We created the angels as females, while they were present? 150 Lo! it is of their falsehood that they say: 151 "God has begotten [a son]"; and verily, they are lying [too, when they say,] 152 Hath He chosen daughters above sons? 153 Woe to you! How terrible is your Judgment. 154 Will you not then remember? 155 Or is there for you a plain authority? 156 Then produce your writ, if ye are truthful. 157 They assert kinship between Him and the angels. But the angels know that they (the liars) will be arraigned (in Hell). 158 God is far above what they attribute to Him, 159 except for the sincere worshipers of Allah. 160 Wherefore verily neither ye nor that which ye worship, 161 You cannot make anyone rebel against Him. 162 Save him who is to burn in hell. 163 Of us there is none but hath a station assigned. 164 Verily, we (angels), we stand in rows for the prayers (as you Muslims stand in rows for your prayers); 165 And we are they who exalt (Allah)' 166 They used to say before: 167 Had we a reminder from those of yore, 168 we would surely have been Allah's chosen servants.” 169 But they disbelieve in it (the Koran), but soon they shall know! 170 Our Word had already preceded Our worshipers, the Messengers, 171 That they verily would be made triumphant. 172 And that certainly Our armies will be victorious. 173 So turn thou away from them for a little while, 174 and see them [for what they are]; and in time they [too] will come to see [what they do not see now]. 175 Do they seek to hasten on Our Torment? 176 When it lights in their courtyard, how evil will be the morning of them that are warned! 177 And turn away from them till a time 178 and see, soon they shall see! 179 Glory to thy Lord, the Lord of Honour and Power! (He is free) from what they ascribe (to Him)! 180 Peace be upon the Messengers 181 And all praise to God, the Lord of all the worlds. 182
