The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 Arise and warn, 2 And your Lord glorify 3 thy robes purify 4 And all abomination shun! 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 And persevere in the way of your Lord. 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 So that is a tough day. 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!- 11 and whom I have granted abundant wealth 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 And made things easy for them. 14 And yet he desires that I should add more! 15 No! Indeed, he has been toward Our verses obstinate. 16 On him I shall impose a fearful doom. 17 For lo! he did consider; then he planned - 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 Again accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 20 Then he looked, 21 Then frowned and grimaced. 22 and in the end he turns his back [on Our message,] and glories in his arrogance, 23 and said, "This is nothing but sorcery from the ancients. 24 This is naught else than speech of mortal man. 25 Anon shall I roast him into the Scorching Fire. 26 And what will explain to thee what Hell-Fire is? 27 It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] 28 Blackening the skins. 29 Above it are nineteen guards. 30 We have made only angels as the keepers of the fire (for they are the strongest in carrying out Our commands). Our informing (people) of the numbers of these angels is a trial for the disbelievers. It gives more certainty to the people of the Book and strengthens the faith of the believers. The people of the Book and the believers have no doubt about it. We have fixed the number to make the disbelievers and those whose hearts are sick say, "What does God mean by such a parable?" Thus, God guides and causes to go astray whomever He wants. No one knows about the army of your Lord except He Himself. This parable is a reminder for mankind. 31
