He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 And whereas he fears, 9 you ignore him. 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 And produce therein corn, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 And olives and palms 29 And dense gardens, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 Some faces will shine, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
