Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Have you heard the story of the overwhelming event (the Day of Judgment)? 1 On that day (many) faces will be downcast, 2 Travailing, worn. 3 They will [enter to] burn in an intensely hot Fire. 4 Drinking from a boiling spring, 5 no food for them except thorny plants 6 that will neither nourish nor satisfy their hunger. 7 Some faces on that Day will be radiant, 8 well pleased with the result of their striving, 9 In a lofty Paradise. 10 Wherein they will hear no unsuitable speech. 11 Wherein is a gushing spring, 12 therein uplifted couches 13 Goblets set, 14 and cushions ranged, 15 And linen spread out. 16 Then do they not look at the camels - how they are created? 17 and on the sky, how it is raised aloft, 18 And the hills, how they are set up? 19 how the earth was outstretched? 20 So remind, [O Muhammad]; you are only a reminder. 21 thou canst not compel them [to believe]. 22 Other than him who turns his back and denies, 23 So Allah will mete out to him the greatest punishment. 24 for behold, unto Us will be their return, 25 And Ours their reckoning. 26
