At length when the messengers arrived among the adherents of Lut, 61 He said: verily ye are a people stranger. 62 They said: "Nay, we have come to you with that (torment) which they have been doubting. 63 And we have come to you with truth, and indeed, we are truthful. 64 “Therefore journey with your household while a portion of the night remains, and you tread behind them – and none of you may turn around and see, and proceed directly to the place you are commanded to.” 65 And We made known this decree to him, that the last remnants of those (sinners) should be cut off by the morning. 66 Then came the people of the city, exulting at the news. 67 He said: verily these are my guests, so disgrace me not. 68 And fear Allah and do not disgrace me." 69 They answered: "Have we not forbidden thee [to offer protection] to any kind of people?" 70 Lot said, "These are my daughters if you want them." 71 By thy life (O Muhammad) they moved blindly in the frenzy of approaching death. 72 So As-Saihah (torment - awful cry, etc.) overtook them at the time of sunrise; 73 We turned the town upside down and rained upon them stones of clay. 74 In this there is evidence (of the Truth) for the prudent ones. 75 And the (cities were) right on the high-road. 76 Behold! in this is a sign for those who believed. 77 And the dwellers of the wood surely were wrong-doers. 78 So We chastised them. The desolate locations of both communities lie on a well-known highway. 79
