Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha. Mim. 1 By the manifest Book (this Quran) that makes things clear, 2 Verily We have sent it down on a blessed night, verily We were to become warners. 3 On that night is made distinct every precise matter - 4 As a command from Our presence - Lo! We are ever sending - 5 as a mercy (for the human being) from your Lord. Your Lord is All-hearing and All-knowing. 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you (but) have a faith with certainty. 7 There is no god but He; He gives life and makes to die; your Lord and the Lord of your fathers, the ancients. 8 In fact, the unbelievers have doubts because of excessive involvement in worldly affairs. 9 So be on the watch for a day when heaven shall bring a manifest smoke 10 Which would envelope mankind. That would be a grievous affliction. 11 Then they will say, "Lord, relieve us from this torment, for truly we are now believers in You." 12 How shall the message be (effectual) for them, seeing that an Messenger explaining things clearly has (already) come to them,- 13 yet they turned away from him and said: “This is a well-tutored madman.” 14 Verily, We shall remove the torment for a while. Verily! You will revert. 15 On the Day whereon We assault them with the greatest assault, verily We shall take vengeance. 16 ۞ We had certainly tested the people of the Pharaoh before them to whom a noble Messengers had come, saying, 17 "Deliver the creatures of God to me. I am the trusted messenger sent to you. 18 "And be not arrogant as against Allah: for I come to you with authority manifest. 19 I take refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you stone me. 20 "But if you believe me not, then keep away from me and leave me alone." 21 But then, [when they beset him with their enmity,] he called out to his Sustainer, "These are [indeed] people lost in sin!" 22 We told him, "Leave the city with My servants during the night. You will be pursued. 23 "And leave the sea as a furrow (divided): for they are a host (destined) to be drowned." 24 [And so they perished: and] how many gardens did they leave behind, and water-runnels, 25 And cornfields and goodly positions. 26 And favours amongst which they were rejoicing! 27 That is what We did; and We made another nation their heirs. 28 So the heaven and the earth did not weep for them, nor were they respited. 29
