He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 So you are after him! 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 to yield therein corn, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 And thick gardens, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Some faces that Day, will be bright (true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
