He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 you pay him no heed. 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
