The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
I CALL THE night to witness when it covers over, 1 And the day when it shines in all its glory, 2 and by the creation of the male and the female. 3 surely your striving is to diverse ends. 4 As for him who gives and is godfearing 5 and confirms the reward most fair, 6 Unto him therefore We shall indeed make easy the path to ease. 7 As for him who was a miser and behaved with aversion (to Allah), 8 and calls the ultimate good a lie 9 We shall surely ease him to the Hardship; 10 And his substance will avail him not when he perisheth. 11 Surely, in Our hands is guidance, 12 And indeed, to Us belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 13 I have now warned you of the Blazing Fire, 14 in which none shall be roasted except the most wretched sinner, 15 The one who denied and turned away. 16 He will be far away from the most pious. (The first Caliph S. Abu Bakr Siddiq) 17 he that spends his possessions [on others] so that he might grow in purity 18 and confers no favour on any man for recompense, 19 but only out of a longing for the countenance of his Sustainer, the All-Highest: 20 surely, he shall be satisfied. 21
