The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
A questioner questioned concerning the doom about to fall 1 the unbelievers which none can prevent. 2 From Allah, the Lord of all pinnacles. 3 The angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him during a Day the extent of which is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore, [O believers] behave with seemly patience. 5 Verily! They see it (the torment) afar off, 6 Whereas We see it impending. 7 On the day when the heaven shall be as molten copper 8 The mountains like the tufts of (carded) wool, 9 And no friend inquires after friend 10 Though they will be given sight of them. The guilty man will long to be able to ransom himself from the punishment of that day at the price of his children 11 And his wife and his brother 12 And his nearest kindred who shelter him 13 and all the people of the earth, if that could deliver him. 14 By no means! Surely it is a flaming fire 15 stripping away his skin, 16 It shall call him who turneth back and backslideth. 17 And masseth and then hoardeth. 18 ۞ VERILY, man is born with a restless disposition. 19 When evil touches him, impatient, 20 And when good touches him, withholding [of it], 21 Except the observers of prayer - 22 who are constant in prayer; 23 In whose wealth a due share is included 24 For him who begs and for him who is denied (good) 25 And those who believe in the Day of Judgment, 26 and fear the chastisement of their Lord – 27 Indeed the punishment of their Lord is not a thing to be unafraid of! 28 who guard their privates 29 Except in the case of their wives or those whom their right hands possess-- for these surely are not to be blamed, 30 But those who seek more than this will be transgressors; 31 And those who fulfil their trusts and covenants, 32 And those who are in their testimonies upright 33 And those who guard (the sacredness) of their worship;- 34 Those shall be in gardens, honored. 35
