The Town (Al-Balad)

20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

۞ No! I swear by this land, 1 And thou shalt be allowed in yonder city 2 and [I call to witness] parent and offspring: 3 Verily, We have created man into [a life of] pain, toil and trial. 4 Does he think then that no one has power over him? 5 He says: "I have wasted a great deal of wealth." 6 Does he then think that no one sees him? 7 Did We not assign unto him two eyes 8 a tongue, and two lips, 9 and shown him the two paths? 10 So he did not quickly enter the steep valley. 11 Ah, what will convey unto thee what the Ascent is! - 12 It is freeing someone's neck from slavery; 13 Or the giving of food in a day of hunger 14 to an orphan near of kin; 15 or a needy man in misery; 16 And to be of those who believe, and urge upon one another to persevere, and urge upon each other to be kind. 17 Those are the Companions of the Right. 18 And (as for) those who disbelieve in our communications, they are the people of the left hand. 19 On them will be Fire vaulted over (all round). 20
