The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
I CALL THE night to witness when it covers over, 1 And the day when it shines in brightness, 2 and by that (Power) which created the male and female, 3 surely your strivings are divergent. 4 As for one who gives [to others] and fears [God], 5 And testifieth to the Good, 6 We will ease him toward ease. 7 But as for one who is miserly and unheeding, 8 and calls the ultimate good a lie 9 We will facilitate for him the difficult end. 10 When he falls (into Hell), his wealth will not help him. 11 Verify on us is the guidance 12 And most surely Ours is the hereafter and the former. 13 Wherefore I have warned you of Fire flaming, 14 in which none shall be roasted except the most wretched sinner, 15 The one who denied and turned away. 16 But save him who fears 17 who spend for the cause of God and purify themselves. 18 They do not expect any reward 19 He desires only to please his Lord, the Supreme. 20 Will surely be gratified. 21
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
