Indeed this is a revelation from the Lord of the Universe; 192 Which the trustworthy Ruh [Jibrael (Gabriel)] has brought down; 193 upon your heart (Prophet Muhammad), in order to be one of the warners, 194 In eloquent Arabic. 195 And indeed, it is [mentioned] in the scriptures of former peoples. 196 Is it not evidence enough for them that the learned among the Children of Israel have recognized this [as true]? 197 Had We revealed it to a non-Arab 198 And he had recited it to them, and they had not believed (it would have been different). 199 We have thus caused denial of truth to enter into the hearts of the sinners: 200 They will not believe in it to the extent that they see the painful punishment. 201 And it will come to them suddenly while they perceive [it] not. 202 Then they will exclaim, "Could we have some respite?" 203 Do they then ask for Our Penalty to be hastened on? 204 What thinkest thou? If We give them enjoyment of days for many years, 205 And then what they were promised comes upon them, 206 what avail will their past enjoyments be to them? 207 We never destroyed any habitation but that it had warners 208 as a reminder from Us: We are never unjust. 209 The devils did not bring it down. 210 Neither would it suit them, nor they can (produce it). 211 They have been precluded from hearing it. 212 So call not upon another god with Allah, lest you be of those who are punished. 213 And warn your nearest relations, 214 And be kind to him who follows you of the believers. 215 Then if they disobey thee, say: "I am free (of responsibility) for what ye do!" 216 And put your trust in Him Who is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate, 217 who can see whether you stand up 218 And your turning over and over among those who prostrate themselves before Allah. 219 Surely He is the All-hearing, the All-knowing. 220 O people, shall I tell you on whom it is that satans descend? 221 They come to every sinful liar. 222 who readily lend ear [to every falsehood,] and most of whom lie to others as well. 223 As for poets, only the wayward follow them. 224 Observest thou not, that they wander about every vale. 225 and preaching what they themselves never practice. 226 Except those who believe, work righteousness, engage much in the remembrance of Allah, and defend themselves only after they are unjustly attacked. And soon will the unjust assailants know what vicissitudes their affairs will take! 227
