Let the dead earth be a Sign for them. We gave it life and produced from it grain whereof they eat. 33 And We have placed in it gardens of dates and grapes, and We have made springs of water in it. 34 so that they may eat its fruit, though it was not their hands that made this. Will they not then be grateful? 35 Holy is He Who created all things in pairs, whether it be of what the earth produces, and of themselves, and of what they do not know. 36 And a sign to them is the night: We draw forth from it the day, then lo! they are in the dark; 37 And [they have a sign in] the sun: it runs in an orbit of its own [and] that is laid down by the will of the Almighty, the All-Knowing; 38 And (as for) the moon, We have ordained for it stages till it becomes again as an old dry palm branch. 39 It behoves not the sun to overtake the moon, neither does the night outstrip the day, each swimming in a sky. 40 And a token unto them is that We bear their offspring in the laden ship, 41 And We have created for them of the like thereunto, so on them they ride. 42 Should We so wish, We can drown them, and there will be none to heed their cries of distress, nor will they be rescued. 43 Unless by Our benevolence, to reap advantage for a time. 44 When it is said unto them: Beware of that which is before you and that which is behind you, that haply ye may find mercy (they are heedless). 45 Never came a token of the tokens of their Lord to them, but they did turn away from it! 46 And when they are told, "Spend ye of (the bounties) with which Allah has provided you," the Unbelievers say to those who believe: "Shall we then feed those whom, if Allah had so willed, He would have fed, (Himself)? Ye are in nothing but manifest error." 47 And they say: When will this promise be fulfilled, if ye are truthful? 48 They wait not for aught but a single cry which will overtake them while they yet contend with one another. 49 Then they would not be able to make a will, or go back to their people. 50
