The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
READ IN THE name of your Lord who created, 1 He created man from a clot. 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Bountiful One 3 Who taught by the pen, 4 Taught man that which he knew not. 5 And yet, but yet man is rebellious, 6 that he sees himself sufficed. 7 Surely to your Lord is your return. 8 Hast thou seen him who dissuadeth 9 a worshiper when he prays. 10 What thinkest thou? If he were upon guidance 11 Or enjoins Righteousness? 12 What thinkest thou? If he cries lies, and turns away - 13 Did he not realise that Allah is watching? 14 Nay! If he (Abu Jahl) ceases not, We will catch him by the forelock, 15 the lying, rebellious forehead! 16 Then, let him call (for help) to his council (of comrades): 17 and We too will call the stern and angry keepers of hell. 18 Yes indeed; do not listen to him and prostrate, and become close to Us. (Command of Prostration # 14) ۩ 19

قراءة القرآن مترجماً إلى الإنجليزية أو أية لغة أخرى أشبه بقراءة كتب التفسير من قراءة ترجمات حرفية.
Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
