The great ones among Pharaoh's people said: "Verily, this is indeed a sorcerer of great knowledge, 109 who desires to expel you from your land; what do you command?' 110 They said (unto Pharaoh): Put him off (a while) - him and his brother - and send into the cities summoners, 111 That they may bring to thee every magician knowing. 112 And the enchanters came to Firon (and) said: We must surely have a reward if we are the prevailing ones. 113 Pharaoh replied: 'Certainly, and you shall be among those who are near to me.' 114 They said, “O Moosa! You may throw first – or shall we be the first to throw?” 115 "You cast it first," answered Moses. When they cast their spell, they bewitched the eyes of the people and petrified them by conjuring up a great charm. 116 We inspired Moses to throw his staff, and suddenly it began to swallow-up all that the magicians had (falsely) invented. 117 ۞ Thus the truth prevailed and what they had produced came to nothing: 118 Thus they were vanquished there, and they went back abased. 119 The sorcerers fell to the ground in homage, 120 They said: We believe in the Lord of the worlds, 121 the Sustainer of Moses and Aaron!" 122 Said Pharaoh, "You believed in him before I gave you permission. Indeed, this is a conspiracy which you conspired in the city to expel therefrom its people. But you are going to know. 123 most certainly shall I cut off your hands and your feet in great numbers, because of [your] perverseness, and then I shall most certainly crucify you, in great numbers, all together!" 124 They replied, "We shall surely return to our Lord. 125 Will you punish us just because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us? Our Lord! Shower us with perseverance and cause us to die as those who have submitted [to You].' 126
