Relate the news of Abraham to them. 69 when he asked his father and his people: "What do you worship?" 70 They answered: "There are some idols that we worship and are devoted to them with constancy." 71 (Abraham) asked: "Do they hear when you call them? 72 or do they profit you, or harm?' 73 They said: "Nay, but we found our fathers doing so." 74 He said: See now that which ye worship, 75 Ye and your fathers of old? 76 Verily they are an enemy unto me, save the Lord of the worlds. 77 who created me, and Himself guides me, 78 He Who feedeth me and giveth me to drink. 79 and, whenever I am sick, heals me, 80 "And Who will cause me to die, and then will bring me to life (again); 81 "And who, I hope, will forgive me my faults on the day of Judgment. 82 "O my Lord! bestow wisdom on me, and join me with the righteous; 83 And grant me an honourable mention in later generations; 84 And put me among the inheritors of Paradise. 85 and forgive my father for he is among those who strayed, 86 And abase me not on the day when they are raised, 87 The Day when there will not benefit [anyone] wealth or children 88 [and when] only he [will be happy] who comes before God with a heart free of evil!" 89 For, [on that Day,] paradise will be brought within sight of the God-conscious, 90 And the (Hell) Fire will be placed in full view of the erring. 91 And it will be said to them: "Where are those (the false gods whom you used to set up as rivals with Allah) that you used to worship 92 besides God? Will the idols help you? Can they help themselves?" 93 "Then they will be thrown headlong into the (Fire),- they and those straying in Evil, 94 and the army of satan will all be thrown headlong into hell. 95 They will say while they dispute therein, 96 'By God, we were certainly in manifest error 97 when we made you equal with the Lord of the Universe. 98 yet they who have seduced us [into believing in you] are the truly guilty ones! 99 Now we have no intercessors, 100 no loyal friend. 101 Were there for us a return, we would be of the believers. 102 Indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 103 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 104
