۞ [And God will thus command:] "Assemble all those who were bent on evildoing, together with others of their ilk and [with] all that they were wont to worship 22 Besides Allah, then lead them to the way to hell. 23 “And stop them – they are to be questioned.” 24 They will be asked, "Why do you not help each other?" 25 Nay! on that day they shall be submissive. 26 And some of them draw near unto others, mutually questioning. 27 They say: Lo! ye used to come unto us, imposing, (swearing that ye spoke the truth). 28 Those say, 'No; on the contrary, you were not believers; 29 "Nor had we any authority over you. Nay, it was ye who were a people in obstinate rebellion! 30 and so we became deserving of the Word of our Lord that we shall be made to suffer chastisement. 31 "We led you astray: for truly we were ourselves astray." 32 On that Day they will all share the punishment: 33 Even so We do with the sinners; 34 Whenever it was said to them: “There is no true deity apart from Allah,” they waxed proud 35 And said: "Should we abandon our gods for the sake of an insane poet?" 36 In fact, he had brought them the truth and had acknowledged the Messengers (who were sent before him). 37 Most surely you will taste the painful punishment. 38 But it will be no more than the retribution of (the Evil) that ye have wrought;- 39 But the sincere servants of God 40 [in the hereafter,] theirs shall be a sustenance which they will recognize 41 Fruits; and they will be honoured. 42 In Gardens of peace. 43 (Sitting) on couches, face to face, 44 A bowl shall be made to go round them from water running out of springs, 45 Crystal-white, of a taste delicious to those who drink (thereof), 46 there is neither sickness in it, nor intoxication. 47 And with them will be chaste females, restraining their glances (desiring none except their husbands), with wide and beautiful eyes. 48 (Delicate and pure) as if they were (hidden) eggs (well) preserved. 49 They will turn to each other and ask questions. 50 Said one of the speakers: "I had a friend 51 Who used to say: Art thou in truth of those who put faith (in his words)? 52 When we are dead and turned to dust and bones, shall we be recompensed?" 53 He said (to others on the thrones), “Will you take a glimpse (into hell) below?” 54 and then he looks and sees that [companion of his] in the midst of the blazing fire, 55 He saith: By Allah, thou verily didst all but cause my ruin, 56 Had I not the guidance of my Lord, I would certainly have been brought into torment". 57 But then, [O my friends in paradise,] is it [really] so that we are not to die 58 and that we would not be punished?" 59 This is certainly the greatest triumph 60 and for the like of this let the workers work. 61 Is this a better hospitality or the tree of al-Zaqqum? 62 We have appointed it as a trial for the evildoers. 63 It is a tree that grows from the bottom of Hell; 64 its fruit [as repulsive] as satans' heads; 65 So indeed they will eat from it, and fill their bellies with it. 66 And behold, above all this they will be confounded with burning despair! 67 Then indeed, their return will be to the Hellfire. 68 Verily, they found their fathers on the wrong path; 69 and rushed to follow them. 70 And truly before them, many of the ancients went astray;- 71 And verily We sent among them warners. 72 and behold what happened in the end to those that had been warned [to no avail]! 73 But not the chosen servants of Allah. 74
