The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the Mount, 1 and by the Scripture penned 2 in an exposed parchment 3 And [by] the frequented House 4 By the Canopy Raised High; 5 And the sea kept filled, 6 VERILY, [O man,] the suffering decreed by thy Sustainer [for the sinners] will indeed come to pass: 7 there is none to avert it. 8 The day the sky will tremble, 9 and the mountains are in motion, 10 Then woe that day unto the deniers 11 That play (and paddle) in shallow trifles. 12 On that day they will be violently pushed into the fire 13 (And it is said unto them): This is the Fire which ye were wont to deny. 14 “So is this magic, or are you unable to see?” 15 Endure the heat thereof, and whether ye are patient of it or impatient of it is all one for you. Ye are only being paid for what ye used to do. 16 Indeed the pious are in Gardens and peace. 17 enjoying what Allah will have endowed them with; and their Lord will have saved them from the torment of the Blazing Fire. 18 "Eat and drink with happiness because of what you used to do." 19 They will recline (with ease) on thrones arranged in ranks. And We shall marry them to Houris (female, fair ones) with wide lovely eyes. 20 And as for those who have attained to faith and whose offspring will have followed them in faith, We shall unite them with their offspring; and We shall not let aught of their deeds go to waste: [but] every human being will be held in pledge for whatever he has earned. 21 And We shall provide them with fruit and meat, such as they desire. 22 They will exchange with one another a cup [of wine] wherein [results] no ill speech or commission of sin. 23 ۞ and youths, of their own, shall pass among them as if they were hidden pearls. 24 They will turn to one another and ask (regarding the past events). 25 'When we were among our people' they will say, 'we were ever fearful, 26 So Allah conferred favor upon us and protected us from the punishment of the Scorching Fire. 27 We used to pray to Him erstwhile; He is the just and merciful. 28
