Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Ha Mim! 1 By the Clear Book. 2 (That) We sent it down one night of blessing -- so that We could warn -- 3 In the (Night) is made distinct every affair of wisdom, 4 A command from Us; surely We are the senders (of apostles), 5 As mercy from your Lord. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Knowing. 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you are certain (of your faith). 7 There is no deity except Him; He gives life and causes death. [He is] your Lord and the Lord of your first forefathers. 8 In fact, the unbelievers have doubts because of excessive involvement in worldly affairs. 9 Then watch thou for the Day that the sky will bring forth a kind of smoke (or mist) plainly visible, 10 Which would envelope mankind. That would be a grievous affliction. 11 Our Lord! remove from us the torment, verily we shall become believers. 12 [But] how shall this remembrance avail them [at the Last Hour,] seeing that an apostle had previously come unto them, clearly expounding the truth, 13 then they turned away from him and said, 'A man tutored, possessed!' 14 Surely We will remove the punishment a little, (but) you will surely return (to evil). 15 On the day when We will seize (them) with the most violent seizing; surely We will inflict retribution. 16 ۞ And assuredly afore them We proved Fir'awn's people, and there came unto them an apostle honoured. 17 Saying: Deliver to me the servants of Allah, surely I am a faithful apostle to you, 18 Do not think yourselves to be above God: I have come to you with clear authority. 19 "For me, I have sought safety with my Lord and your Lord, against your injuring me. 20 But if you do not believe what I say, leave me alone (and desist from laying hands on me).” 21 And he cried unto his Lord, (saying): These are guilty folk. 22 God said, "Set out with My servants by night, for you will certainly be pursued. 23 And leave the sea intervening; surely they are a host that shall be drowned. 24 They left - how many! of gardens and springs. 25 and sown fields, fine sitting places, 26 And goodly things wherein they rejoiced; 27 Such was their end, and what had been theirs We gave to other people to inherit. 28 Neither heaven nor earth shed tears for them; nor were they respited, 29
