The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
The Hour (of Judgment) is nigh, and the moon is cleft asunder. 1 But if they see a Sign, they turn away, and say, "This is (but) transient magic." 2 And they denied and followed their own desires, whereas each matter has been decided! 3 And surely there hath come unto them news whereof the purport should deter, 4 narratives that are full of consummate wisdom. But warnings do not avail them. 5 So turn away from them. When on the Day the crier calls to the painful business, 6 their eyes will be humbled as they come out from their graves as if they were scattered locusts, 7 running (with their necks extended) to the Caller. The unbelievers will say: 'This is indeed a harsh Day' 8 ۞ The people of Noah cried lies before them; they cried lies to Our servant, and said, 'A man possessed!' And he was rejected. 9 Noah prayed, "Lord, help me; I am defeated". 10 Then opened We the gates of heaven with pouring water 11 And We caused the earth to gush forth with springs. So the waters (of the heaven and the earth) met for a matter predestined. 12 And We bore him upon a well-planked vessel well-caulked 13 Which sailed right under Our eyes: A recompense for him who had been denied. 14 And certainly We left it as a sign, but is there anyone who 15 Then how (terrible) was My Torment and My Warnings? 16 And We have indeed made the Qur’an easy to memorise, so is there one who would remember? 17 'Ad (people) belied (their Prophet, Hud), then how (terrible) was My Torment and My Warnings? 18 We loosed against them a wind clamorous in a day of ill fortune continuous, 19 It swept people away as if they were trunks of uprooted palm trees. 20 How terrible was Our torment and the result of (their disregard) of Our warning. 21 Now We have made the Koran easy for Remembrance. Is there any that will remember? 22
