A large group from the earlier generations. 39 And a company of the later peoples. 40 And those of the left hand, how wretched are those of the left hand! 41 In fierce hot wind and boiling water, 42 And a shade of black smoke, 43 (That shadow) neither cool, nor (even) good, 44 and before that they lived at ease, 45 And they have been persisting in the heinous offence. 46 It was they who said, "Shall we be resurrected after we die and have turned into dust and bones? 47 What, and our fathers, the ancients' 48 Proclaim, “Without doubt all the former and the latter.” 49 will be brought together for an appointment on an appointed day. 50 Then you, the erring and the deniers, 51 "You verily will eat of the trees of Zaqqum. 52 filling your bellies, with it 53 "And drink boiling water on top of it, 54 like a thirsty camel". 55 This shall be their entertainment on the Day of Judgement. 56 We! it is We Who created you: wherefore confess ye not? 57 Have you thought about what (sperm) you ejaculate? 58 Is it ye who create it, or are We the Creators? 59 It was We who decreed death among you. We will not be surpassed 60 In order that We may bring in your place the likes of you and make you grow into what you know not. 61 You have known the first creation, then why do you not reflect? 62 Tell Me! The seed that you sow in the ground. 63 Do you give it its increase, or are We the giver? 64 If We so pleased, We could turn your harvest into chaff. Then you would start lamenting, 65 (And say:) "We have fallen into debt; 66 Rather, we have been prevented' 67 Did you cast a good look at the water that you drink? 68 Is it you who caused it to descend from the cloud, or is it We Who cause it to descend? 69 If We so pleased, We certainly could make it salty. Why, then, are you not grateful? 70 Have you considered the fire which you strike? 71 Is it ye who grow the tree which feeds the fire, or do We grow it? 72 We have made it a Reminder (for the Hell-fire, in the Hereafter); and an article of use for the travellers (and all the others, in this world). 73 Glorify, then, (O Prophet), the name of your Great Lord. 74
