Nay, by the Moon 32 and the night when it retreats 33 and the morn when it dawns! 34 it is one of the greatest trials, 35 A warning to mankind, 36 To any of you that chooses to press forward, or to follow behind;- 37 Every person is a pledge for what he has earned, 38 Save the fellows of the right. 39 In Gardens; they shall be asking, 40 Of evil-doers: 41 "What was it that brought you to Hell?" 42 They will answer: We were not of those who prayed 43 we fed not the needy, 44 And we used to enter into vain discourse with those who engaged [in it], 45 And we used to deny the Day of Recompense 46 “Till death overcame us.” 47 The intercession of the intercessors will be of no benefit to them. 48 So what is the matter with them that they turn away from the advice? 49 As if they were frightened (wild) donkeys. 50 Fleeing from a hunter, or a lion, or a beast of prey. 51 Nay; every one of them desires that he may be given pages spread out; 52 No indeed; the truth is that they have no fear of the Hereafter. 53 No!
