The Town (Al-Balad)

20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

۞ I swear by yonder city 1 this land in which thou art free to dwell 2 and [I call to witness] parent and offspring: 3 We have certainly created man into hardship. 4 Does He think that no one will ever have control over him? 5 He says: “I have squandered enormous wealth.” 6 Does he then think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes?- 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 And shown him the two ways (good and evil)? 10 Yet he attempteth not the steep, 11 And what do you know what that difficult steep is? 12 (It is:) freeing the bondman; 13 Or, feeding, in a day of privation, 14 An orphan, of kin, 15 Or the poor in distress; 16 And moreover to be of those who accepted faith, and who urged patience to one another and who urged graciousness to one another. 17 Those who do so are the people of the right hand, 18 But they who disbelieved in Our signs - those are the companions of the left. 19 Fire will be an awning over them. 20

Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
