The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the setting star, 1 That your companion is not confused, nor has he gone astray, 2 nor does he speak out of his own desire. 3 Indeed it is not except a Revelation which is revealed, 4 Which one of mighty powers hath taught him, 5 very strong; he stood poised, 6 while he was in the highest horizon; 7 Then he approached and came closer, 8 until he was two bow-lengths away or even closer 9 and revealed to God's servant what he revealed. 10 His heart did not lie of what he saw. 11 Will ye therefore dispute with him concerning that which he hath seen? 12 And certainly he saw him descend a second time: 13 By the Lote-tree beyond which none can pass, 14 close to the Garden of Refuge. 15 with the lote-tree veiled in a veil of nameless splendour 16 Neither did sight falter nor exceed the bounds. 17 He certainly saw the greatest (signs) of the existence of his Lord. 18 Have ye then considered Al-Lat and AL-'uzza: 19 and about the third deity, al-Manat? 20 What, have you males, and He females? 21 That indeed were an unfair division! 22 They are nothing but some names that you have coined, you and your forefathers - Allah has not sent any proof for them; they follow only guesses and their own desires; whereas the guidance from their Lord has come to them. 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 But it is to God that the Hereafter and this world belong. 25
