The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ Of what ask they? 1 About the awesome tidings [of resurrection] 2 About which they differ? 3 By no means! anon they shall know. 4 Nay, again, they will come to know! 5 HAVE WE NOT made the earth a resting-place [for you,] 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 and gave you repose in sleep, 9 And made the night as clothing 10 and made the day [a symbol of] life. 11 And (have We not) built over you the seven firmaments, 12 And We made a shining lamp, 13 And sent down, from the rain clouds, pouring water 14 That We may bring forth thereby grain and vegetation 15 and thick gardens grow? 16 Lo! the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 the Day when the Trumpet shall be blown, and you will come forth in multitudes; 18 And the heaven shall be opened, and it will become as gates, 19 And the mountains will have been removed away, and they will have become as mirage. 20 Certainly Hell lies in wait, 21 A place of resort for the inordinate, 22 They will abide therein for ages. 23 Finding neither sleep nor any thing to drink 24 But boiling and intensely cold water, 25 The reward to each is according to what he is. 26 For lo! they looked not for a reckoning; 27 and they cried loud lies to Our signs; 28 We have kept account of everything in a book. 29 Taste therefore. We shall not increase you in aught but torment. 30
