O apostles! eat of the good things and do good; surely I know what you do. 51 “And indeed this religion of yours is one religion only and I am your Lord, therefore fear Me.” 52 But people have cut off their affair (of unity), between them, into sects: each party rejoices in that which is with itself. 53 Leave them in their perplexity for a time. 54 Do they fancy that Our continuing to give them wealth and children (means) that 55 We [but want to] make them vie with one another in doing [what they consider] good works? Nay, but they do not perceive [their error]! 56 Surely they who from fear of their Lord are cautious, 57 And those who believe in the communications of their Lord, 58 And those who do not associate (aught) with their Lord, 59 and who give whatever they [have to] give with their hearts trembling at the thought that unto their Sustainer they must return: 60 it is they who vie with one another in doing good works and shall be the foremost in doing so. 61 And We tax not any person except according to his capacity, and with Us is a Record which speaks the truth, and they will not be wronged. 62 But their hearts are covered with confusion over this, and they have [evil] deeds besides disbelief which they are doing, 63 Until, when We seize in Punishment those of them who received the good things of this world, behold, they will groan in supplication! 64 We shall tell them, "Do not cry for help on this day; you will receive none from Us". 65 For when My revelations were read out to you, you turned back on your heels and fled 66 In scorn thereof. Nightly did ye rave together. 67 Have they not pondered the saying, or came there upon them that which came not upon their fathers, the ancients? 68 Or know they not their messenger, and so reject him? 69 Do they say he is possessed? Rather he has brought them the truth, but most of them are averse to the truth. 70 Had the truth followed their caprices, the heavens and the earth and whosoever in them is had surely corrupted. Nay, We brought them their Remembrance, but from their Remembrance they turned. 71 Or, do you ask a tribute from them? Your Lord's tribute is better. He is the Best of providers. 72 Assuredly thou art calling them to a straight path; 73 But those who believe not in the Hereafter turn away from the straight path. 74 ۞ And if We have mercy upon them and remove the calamity which has befallen them, they would still stubbornly persist, wandering in their rebellion. 75 Already We have seized them with the punishment, but they neither humbled themselves to their Lord, nor did they beseech Him, 76 Until We open on them a gate leading to a severe Punishment: then Lo! they will be plunged in despair therein! 77
