Noah (Nooh)
28 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Bee (Al-nahl) before Abraham (Ibrahim)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
We sent Noah to his people, saying, 'Warn thy people, ere there come on them a painful chastisement.' 1 [Noah] said, "My people! I am but a plain warner to you, 2 saying, "Serve God, and fear Him, and obey you me, 3 He will forgive you some of your faults and grant you a delay to an appointed term; surely the term of Allah when it comes is not postponed; did you but know! 4 He said: My Lord! Lo! I have called unto my people night and day 5 And my calling hath only increased them in fleeing. 6 And whenever I have called them that Thou mayest forgive them, they put their fingers in their ears, cover themselves with their garments, and persist and are puffed up with pride: 7 "So I have called to them aloud; 8 and, behold I preached to them in public; and I spoke to them secretly, in private; 9 and told them, "Ask forgiveness from your Lord; He is All-forgiving". 10 "'He will send rain to you in abundance; 11 and give to you wealth and sons, and provide you with gardens and rivers. 12 What aileth you that ye expect not in Allah majesty! 13 ‘Whereas it is He Who created you in different stages?’ 14 ‘Do you not see how Allah has created the seven heavens atop each other?’ 15 And hath made the moon a light therein, and made the sun a lamp? 16 "'And God has caused you to grow out of the earth in [gradual] growth; and thereafter He will return you to it [in death]: 17 then He shall return you into it, and bring you forth. 18 Allah has made the earth spread out for you 19 That ye may thread the valley-ways thereof. 20
