Also recount the story of Abraham in the Book. He was a man of truth, and a prophet. 41 When he said to his father, 'Father, why worshippest thou that which neither hears nor sees, nor avails thee anything? 42 O my father, to me has come such knowledge as never came to you. So follow me that I may show you the right path. 43 O My father! worship not the Satan; verily the Satan hath been unto the Compassionate a rebel. 44 O my father! I dread lest a chastisement from the Most Gracious befall thee, and then thou wilt become [aware of having been] close unto Satan!" 45 Said he, 'What, art thou shrinking from my gods, Abraham? Surely, if thou givest not over, I shall stone thee; so forsake me now for some while.' 46 [Abraham] said, "Peace will be upon you. I will ask forgiveness for you of my Lord. Indeed, He is ever gracious to me. 47 "And I will turn away from you (all) and from those whom ye invoke besides Allah: I will call on my Lord: perhaps, by my prayer to my Lord, I shall be not unblest." 48 So when he had separated from them and what they worshipped other than Allah, We bestowed him Ishaq and Yaqub; and We made each of them a Herald of the Hidden. 49 And We granted to them of Our mercy, and We left (behind them) a truthful mention of eminence for them. 50
