Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Ha-Mim. 1 By the clear Book, 2 surely We sent it down on a blessed night, We have always sent warnings, 3 On this night, every absolute command coming from Us becomes distinguishable. 4 by Our own command -- We have been sending messages, 5 A mercy from your Lord; indeed He only is the All Hearing, the All Knowing. 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all between them, if ye (but) have an assured faith. 7 There is no god but He: It is He Who gives life and gives death,- The Lord and Cherisher to you and your earliest ancestors. 8 Aye! they're in doubt sporting. 9 WAIT, THEN, for the Day when the skies shall bring forth a pall of smoke which will make obvious [the approach of the Last Hour,] 10 Enveloping the people: this will be a Penalty Grievous. 11 Our Lord! remove from us the torment, verily we shall become believers. 12 How can there be an admonition unto them, when surely there came unto them an apostle manifest! 13 Then they turned away from him and said, "[He was] taught [and is] a madman." 14 Were We to ease the torment for a while, you would still revert to denial of the truth. 15 On the Day whereon We assault them with the greatest assault, verily We shall take vengeance. 16 ۞ And indeed We tried before them Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) people, when there came to them a noble Messenger [i.e. Musa (Moses)], 17 "Give in unto me, O God's bondmen! Verily, I am an apostle [sent] unto you, worthy of trust! 18 "And be not arrogant as against Allah: for I come to you with authority manifest. 19 I have taken refuge in my Lord and your Lord against your stoning me to death. 20 And if ye will not believe in me, then let me alone. 21 Moses addressed his Lord, saying, "Lord, these people are sinners". 22 (He was told): “Set out with My servants by night for you will certainly be pursued. 23 And leave the sea intervening; surely they are a host that shall be drowned. 24 How many were the gardens and springs they left behind, 25 And the cornlands and the goodly sites 26 and [all that] life of ease in which they used to delight! 27 Thus it was; and We made another people inherit all that. 28 And neither heaven nor earth shed a tear over them: nor were they given a respite (again). 29
