The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the Event will come to pass 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 It will bring down [some] and raise up [others]. 3 When the earth is shaken with a shock 4 and the mountains will crumble 5 they will become like dust scattered around. 6 And you become [of] three kinds: 7 Those on the Right -- how blessed are those on the Right! 8 Companions of the Left, what are the Companions of the Left? 9 And the Outstrippers, the Outstrippers 10 those are they brought near (to their Lord) 11 in the Gardens of Delight 12 A throng of the ancients, 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 (They will be) on Thrones encrusted (with gold and precious stones), 15 Reclining face to face. 16 Youths of never-ending bloom will pass round to them 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 Unheady, uninebriating; 19 And fruits that they may like. 20 and such flesh of fowl as they desire, 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 Like unto preserved pearls. 23 a recompense for all that they did. 24 Therein they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 Midst lote-trees thornless. 28 And acacia covered with heaps of bloom, 29 And in everlasting shade. 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 Neither limited [to season] nor forbidden, 33 And on couches or thrones, raised high. 34 We have indeed developed these women with an excellent development. 35 So made them as maidens. 36 full of love, well-matched 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
