Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Hast thou received the story of the Enveloper? 1 On that Day, there shall be downcast faces, 2 labouring, toilworn, 3 They shall roast into the scalding Fire, 4 Drinking from a boiling spring, 5 No food for them save the bitterness of dry thorns, 6 which gives no strength and neither stills hunger. 7 [Other] faces, that Day, will show pleasure. 8 well pleased with their striving, 9 They shall be in a Garden lofty: 10 In which they will not hear any lewd speech. 11 In it there shall be a flowing spring, 12 and couches raised high, 13 Goblets placed (ready), 14 And cushions ranged! 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 And at the heaven, how it is raised? 18 And the mountains, how they are firmly fixed, 19 and how the earth is spread out? 20 Remind them; you are surely a reminder. 21 You are not a watcher over them; 22 Except whoever turns away and disbelieves – 23 So Allah will mete out to him the greatest punishment. 24 To Us they will all return. 25 And Ours their reckoning. 26
