And rehearse to them (something of) Abraham's story. 69 When he said unto his father and his folk: What worship ye? 70 They said: we worship idols, and we are unto them ever devoted 71 He said, 'Do they hear you when you call, 72 or do they profit you, or harm?' 73 They said, “In fact we found our forefathers doing likewise.” 74 Said [Abraham]: "Have you, then, ever considered what it is that you have been worshipping 75 you and your forefathers of yore? 76 They are enemies to me except the Lord of all the Worlds 77 Who hath created me, and He guideth me. 78 Who gives me food and drink, 79 and, whenever I am sick, heals me, 80 He will cause me to die and will bring me back to life. 81 And Who, I ardently hope, will forgive me my sin on the Day of Judgment. 82 My Lord, bestow wisdom upon me; unite me with the righteous; 83 "Grant me honourable mention on the tongue of truth among the latest (generations); 84 And make me one of the inheritors of the Paradise of Delight; 85 and forgive my father; for he is one of the misguided; 86 And disgrace me not on the day when they are raised 87 The Day whereon will profit neither substance nor sons. 88 Save him who bringeth unto Allah a whole heart. 89 And Paradise will be brought close for the pious. 90 And the hell shall be made manifest to the erring ones, 91 who will be asked, "What did you worship 92 “Instead of Allah? Will they help you or retaliate?” 93 Thereupon they will be hurled into hell - they, as well as all [others] who had been lost in grievous error, 94 And the whole hosts of Iblis (Satan) together. 95 They shall say, as they dispute there one with another, 96 'By Allah, we were certainly in clear error, 97 when we made you equal with the Lord of the Universe. 98 “And none misled us but the guilty.” 99 and now we have none to intercede on our behalf, 100 no loyal friend. 101 If we could only return to the world and be among the believers." 102 Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 103 Verily Your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Ever Compassionate. 104
