The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
A caller supplicated about a punishment to fall on 1 The infidels, of which there is no averter. 2 From Allah, the Lord of the ways of Ascent. 3 The angels and the Ruh [Jibrael (Gabriel)] ascend to Him in a Day the measure whereof is fifty thousand years, 4 (Muhammad), exercise patience with no complaints. 5 They deem it to be remote. 6 But We see it [as] near. 7 On the day when the heaven shall be as molten copper 8 And the mountains will be like flakes of wool, 9 And no familiar friend will ask a question of his friend 10 (Though) they shall be made to see each other. The guilty one would fain redeem himself from the chastisement of that day by (sacrificing) his children, 11 And his wife and his brother 12 And his kin that harboured him 13 and all persons of the earth, if only he could thus save himself. 14 By no means! For the raging flames of the fire 15 snatching away the scalp, 16 It calleth him who turned and fled (from truth), 17 And masseth and then hoardeth. 18 ۞ Indeed, mankind was created anxious: 19 Fretful when evil touches him; 20 but when good comes upon him, he is grudging 21 Not so are the prayerful. 22 Those who remain constant in their Salat (prayers); 23 They are those who assign a certain share of their property 24 For the petitioner and the deprived - 25 who acknowledge the Day of Judgment, 26 and go in fear of the chastisement of their Lord 27 (from their Lord's chastisement none feels secure) 28 And those who guard their chastity, 29 Save with their wives and those whom their right hands possess, for thus they are not blameworthy; 30 but whoever goes beyond this is a transgressor; 31 And those who keep their pledges and their covenant, 32 who testify to what they have witnessed, 33 And those who [carefully] maintain their prayer: 34 Those are highly honored in the Gardens. 35
