The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Arise and warn! 2 proclaim the greatness of your Lord, 3 Purify your inner self, 4 And all defilement shun! 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 And for the sake of your Lord, patiently endure. 7 And [warn all men that] when the trumpet-call [of resurrection] is sounded, 8 that day will be a harsh day, 9 Far from easy for those without Faith. 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 And sons to be by his side!- 13 And made (life) smooth for him. 14 Yet he wants that I should give him more. 15 Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. 16 Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities! 17 He planned and plotted. 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!- 20 Then he looked round; 21 frowned and scowled; 22 then he retreated, and waxed proud. 23 Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 [Hence,] I shall cause him to endure hell-fire [in the life to come]! 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 It spares not (any sinner), nor does it leave (anything unburnt)! 28 Burning the skins! 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 We have appointed none but angels to guard the Fire, and made their number only as a trial for the unbelievers, so that those to whom the Book was given are certain and those who believe increase in belief. And that those who were given the Book, and those who believe will not be in doubt. And that those in whose hearts there is a sickness, together with the unbelievers, may say: 'What did Allah intend by this as an example' As such, Allah leaves in error whom He will and He guides whomsoever He will. None knows the hosts of your Lord except He. This is no more than a Reminder to humans. 31
