He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 So you are after him! 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 you pay him no heed. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 From what has God created him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 And fruits and herbage 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
