AND WHEN the messengers [of God] came to the house of Lot, 61 he said, "You seem to be strangers". 62 They said: Nay, but we bring thee that concerning which they keep disputing, 63 and we have come to you with the truth, and surely we are truthful, 64 "Then travel by night with thy household, when a portion of the night (yet remains), and do thou bring up the rear: let no one amongst you look back, but pass on whither ye are ordered." 65 And We made plain the case to him, that the root of them (who did wrong) was to be cut at early morn. 66 And the inhabitants of the city came rejoicing (at the news of the young men's arrival). 67 [Lout (Lot)] said: "Verily! these are my guests, so shame me not. 68 and fear God, and do not degrade me.' 69 They said: Have we not forbidden you from (other) people? 70 He said, 'These are my daughters, if you would be doing.' 71 By your life, (O Prophet), they went about blindly stumbling in their intoxication. 72 So the shriek seized them at sunrise. 73 And We made the upside there of downwards, and We rained on them stones of baked clay. 74 Indeed in this are signs for people who perceive. 75 for, behold, those [towns] stood by a road that still exists. 76 Behold! in this is a sign for those who believed. 77 And indeed the Dwellers of the Woods were unjust. 78 So We exacted retribution from them. They were both on an open highway, plain to see. 79
